Type Z
Type Z is a water-based, relatively soft washcoating of Calcia-Stabilized (4 wt%) Zirconium Oxide that is usable to over 1500 C in NON-AIR atmospheres. Available in 1 gallon container.
*Note: Type Z should NOT be used in air atmospheres: use Z Aerosol in that case.

Key Attributes
- Provides, in a water-based paint, the properties of ZrO2 – lowest thermal conductivty; good high-temperature stability with molten metals, glasses, slags, and salts; inert barrier for reactions, diffusion bonding, brazing etc.
- Applies like housepaint (brush, dip, air-spray)
- Easily applied by air spraying on to hot or cold graphite crucibles and molds
