Pastes and Putty
These products are pastes and putties that meet all your high temperature needs.
BN Lubricoat Paste
BN Lubricoat Paste is the same “workhorse” formulation of our BN-Lubricoat but available in paste consistency. Thus, this version can be applied in thick layers or diluted with water to make a paint usable for all liquid metal transfer components to yield excellent nonwetting/release with aluminum, magnesium, zinc and other nonferrous metals and alloys. Also good with glass-forming.
- Totally Non-Wetted by Molten Aluminum, Magnesium, Zinc and Their Drosses
- Acts Like Teflon® to Molten Metal
- Protects Ceramics, Metals and Graphite
- Maintenance is Reduced and Operator Satisfaction Maximized
- Applied like Spackling Compound
- Safe, Water-Based, No VOC’s
- Molten Metal Release
- Anti-stick/Lubricant
- Barrier Layer
- Filling gaps/holes
- Braze Stop-Off

BN Lubricoat ZA Paste
BN Lubricoat ZA Paste has been developed as a high-viscosity, highly-BN-loaded water-based paste that can be applied as-is or (most often) can be diluted to coat all substrates that are compatible with pH-Acidic (like lemon juice) conditions. The “ZA” paste is usable to 1000 C in air and generally forms a tough, relatively abrasion-resistant, well-bonded surface.
- Totally Non-Wetted by Molten Aluminum, Magnesium, Zinc and Their Drosses
- Protects Ceramics, Metals and Graphite
- Can Be Used “as-is” or Diluted as Desired with Water
- Safe, Water-Based, No VOC’s
- Protection from Molten Metal in Erosion Areas
- Filling Gaps/Holes
- Molten Metal Pumps (such as Electromagnetic Pumps) – Coating Ceramic Housings, Gaskets, etc.

BNW Paste
BNW is a near-neutral-pH paste or concentrate that can be applied in thick layers or diluted with water to yield relatively-soft, washcoat-type of coating or a releasecoating. This paste has a lower BN content which still provides excellent nonwetting and release with aluminum, magnesium, zinc and other nonferrous metals and alloys. Paste has no outgassing other than water when heated.
- Can be applied by troweling as well as brushing … or diluted to use for air-spraying or dipping
- Use “as-is” as a trowelable paste or dilute with water at a 2:1 water-to-paste or even greater level to make a great BN releasecoating
- Releasecoating can be used as a topcoating over thermal insulating coatings to give mirror-like finishes and excellent mold release
- Ideal for use on mild steel, cast iron, and all acidic-pH-sensitive materials
- Totally non-wetted by molten aluminum, magnesium, zinc and their drosses
- Safe, water-based
- Permanent Molds
- Barrier Layer
- Filling gaps/holes
- Ring Seal (when diluted)

BNA Paste
BNA Paste is a non-aqueous-based or solvent-based paste that is usable in all atmospheres and can be applied in thick layers or brushed like house paint It yields excellent nonwetting and release with aluminum, magnesium, zinc and other nonferrous metals and alloys.
- Useful for troweling as well as brushing
- Prevents corrosion with mild steel, cast iron, and all corrosion-prone materials
- Provides non-wetting/release with molten aluminum, magnesium, zinc and their drosses
- Prevents reactions between materials
- Anti-stick/Release
- Barrier Layer
- Filling gaps/holes

BN Cera Patch
BN Cera Patch provides a ready-to-use, water-based ceramic putty patching material that can be filled into any fissure, crack or defect in refractory materials to achieve nonwetting with molten aluminum. This premium repair product is based on Boron Nitride and is completely free of Refractory Ceramic Fiber (RCF). BN Cera Patch is engineered to expand to fill damaged areas and does not sinter, shrink or crack with use. Adheres well to all refractory surfaces, dense or porous. Applicable for all environments to 800 C (1472 F) for continuous use, and to 1000 C (1832 F) for intermittent use. Ready-to-use after applying with putty knife or trowel followed by drying. No special cure is needed.
- Premium Product: Utilizes Boron Nitride for best nonwetting and is non-reacting with molten aluminum and its alloys or drosses
- Smoothly applies and spreads easily; dries in minutes at room temperature
- Expands to fill the damaged areas: does not sinter, shrink or crack with thermal cycling
- Excellent nonwetting, strength, hardness, and toughness that prevents molten aluminum from reacting or undercutting any coated or filled regions
- Stops metal penetration
- Long life of the repaired areas due to non-reaction/non-wetting
- High adhesion to all refractory types (dense or porous) without chipping or flaking
- Fills fissures, cracks, seams and joints • Not sensitive to freezing
- Repairing and patching cracks, fissures, ruts, pock marks, joints, defects in molten-aluminum- transport refractories
- Preventing adhesion and sticking of residual metal in cavities and cracks

BN TAPA Screen Printing Paste
A ready-to-use water-based, totally inorganic, pH-Acidic (like lemon juice) white paste that
is designed to produce a tough, flexible, abrasion-resistant and water-resistant coating of Boron Nitride on all substrates – cloths, metals, ceramics and graphite. BN TAPA is particularly designed for applying to cotton, cotton-polyester or ceramic fabrics or cloths.
BN TAPA can be applied by trowel, spatula, putty knife, squeegee or paint brush. Cure the applied coating at approximately 130 C if water insolubility is desired. The coating itself is usable to over 1652 F (over 900 C). Thinner coatings give the best results.
- Adherent to most all materials; withstands thermal cycles
- Water insoluble after heating to approx. 130 C for <= 1 hr
- Minimal outgassing on heatup, with water vapor as the evolved species
- High temperature stability: does not glaze, melt, run, become tacky or lose adherence
- Easily applied, like house paint
- Water-based; utensils are readily cleaned up with water
- Coating cotton or polyester fabrics, and safety cloths
- Coating ceramic cloths/fabrics or heat-resistant textiles, tapes, felts, or pads for use at high temperatures
- Providing a water-insoluble Boron Nitride coating on a substrate
