Recommendation: Boron Nitride Hardcoat®
Boron Nitride HARDCOAT® for this use is very similar to its use with metal troughs; and this use example should be reviewed for more complete details. Boron Nitride HARDCOAT® offers superior wear/erosion resistance and adherence and easy brush application to metal surfaces. Boron Nitride HARDCOAT® protects the metal from burn-through due to metal attack and allows easy removal of any adhering dross or skin. Staulk tube life is typically doubled leading to improved cost savings. One firm saves over $400,000.00 per year by using BN HARDCOAT® to protect their staulk tubes.
For first-time coating application instructions, please refer to product label and PAINTING INSTRUCTION GUIDE. Specific to staulk tubes, coat both inside and outside. A paint roller or sponge attached to the end of a long pole works well to swab the inside of the tube.
BORON NITRIDE LUBRICOAT®-ZV is an alternative coating to BN-HARDCOAT®; the "ZV" still provides good abrasion-resistance, while also providing somewhat better nonwetting performance. And both HARDCOAT® and "ZV" are pH basic/alkaline -- which makes them good for applying to all metal staulk tubes.
