Our Yttrium Oxide coatings include water-based and non-aqueous formulations, providing the most thermodynamically stable Yttria in paintable form.  It is used for applications such as reactive metal melting, lubrication for superplastic forming / isothermal forging, masking for diffusion bonding / brazing.

TYPE Y
This water-based paint is a water-based suspension of 99.99% pure Yttrium Oxide, the most thermodynamically stable oxide available. Whenever metal purity is a prime consideration during melting and casting operations, yttria can be considered the most chemically resistant material available.   Type Y usage is limited to 1500 C with carbon in a vacuum and is not recommend for usage in air.

Y Aerosol
Yttrium oxide coatings have the highest thermodynamic stability with a use temperature of nearly 2000 C in most atmospheres.  Low thermal conductivity, electrical resistance of over 108 ohm-cm, transparency to microwave energy, superior resistance to aggressive chemical attack at high temperatures and superior thermal stability are characteristics endemic of this coating family.  Convenient, easy to use spray can.

Y Aerosol Brushable
Y Aerosol Brushable is the same formulation used in our aerosol can, but in bulk (paint) form, sold by the gallon.     More Info

YK Paint
This is a low viscosity, non-aqueous-based, yttrium oxide coating. Type YK readily penetrates porous and fibrous ceramic bodies. Compared to Type Y, the Type YK coating is somewhat softer and higher purity after outgassing [with Type YK containing only 0.3% glassy-carbon phase after heating] and also outgasses at a lower temperature of only 350 C – ideal for coating molds where minimum outgassing temperatures and amounts of volatiles are desired.  Type YK is not recommended for usage in air.

YK Binder/Thinner
The YK Binder is a non-aqueous-based binder liquid that is used for washcoatings such as yttria. The term “washcoating” is indicative of a low hardness coating similar to a whitewash house paint. Thus, coatings produced with this binder liquid will always have low hardness on drying and have low water resistance. The binder also has a relatively low ability to suspend solids and generally produces low viscosity coatings with most refractory powders. The liquid carrier being a mixture of ethyl alcohol and ethyl acetoacetate, this binder/suspension agent is generally not very reactive to most materials, including water-reactive materials.  ***Note-contains NO yttrium oxide.

YZ Binder/Thinner
The YZ Binder is the water-based binder liquid that is used for typical yttria or zirconia washcoatings. The term “washcoating” is indicative of a low hardness coating similar to a whitewash house paint. Thus, coatings produced with this binder liquid will always have low hardness on drying and can be easily washed back off if re-wetted (i.e., have low water resistance). The binder also has a relatively low ability to suspend solids and generally produces medium to low viscosity coatings with most refractory powders.  With a pH of 7 and a cellulosic binder/suspension-agent, the binder is generally not very reactive to materials if they are not reactive with water.  ***Note-contains NO yttrium oxide.
