ADDITIONAL COATINGS

Coverguard
Stops graphite burning to above 1800 F, reduces carbon loss and costly component replacement, high emissivity.

      More Info              $159.00 /gallon

MW-50 Paste
A fiber-strengthened silicon carbide paste that can be painted (or troweled to form a thick, stucco shell if desired) to provide a hard, wear and abrasion resistant layer that is non-reactive to most molten metals. MW-50 is ideal for soft ceramic bodies such as pulp-molded parts that often degrade in service due to their soft nature. MW-50 can be built-up to most any thickness and is ideal for repairing graphite parts that have been eroded or damaged thereby saving the expense of replacement. MW-50 also stops graphite oxidation to 1000 C (1800 F) and can extend the use of graphite to these higher temperatures.

Combo Coatings

Combo Coatings are sometimes used on graphite to give reduced oxidation and also good nonwetting due to a Boron Nitride topcoating onto Coverguard.

SC
This water-based coating results in hard, abrasion-resistant coatings that have high-emissivity and are usable on all graphites/carbons like ordinary house paint. The TYPE SC coating inhibits graphite oxidation to its maximum recommended use-temperature of 1000 C.

     More Info            $332.00 /gallon

SC1400
This water-based coating results in hard, abrasion-resistant coatings that have high-emissivity and are usable on all graphites/carbons like ordinary house paint. The TYPE SC 1400 provides protection extended to 1400 C and even to 1600 C for short-time use.

     More Info            $337.00 /gallon

Y
This water-based paint is a water-based suspension of 99.99% pure Yttrium Oxide, the most thermodynamically stable oxide available. Whenever metal purity is a prime consideration during melting and casting operations, yttria can be considered the most chemically resistant material available.   Type Y usage is limited to 1500 C with carbon in a vacuum and is not recommend for usage in air.

YK Paint
This is a low viscosity, non-aqueous-based, yttrium oxide coating. Type YK readily penetrates porous and fibrous ceramic bodies. Compared to Type Y, the Type YK coating is somewhat softer and higher purity after outgassing [with Type YK containing only 0.3% glassy-carbon phase after heating] and also outgasses at a lower temperature of only 350 C – ideal for coating molds where minimum outgassing temperatures and amounts of volatiles are desired.  Type YK is not recommended for usage in air.

Zircwash
Paintable Zirconium Oxide coating; silica free, gives high purity non-ferrous castings, utility to 1900 C.
