Z-Guard is a self-rigidizing coating that is useful for fiber-blankeets, pulp-molded fibers and the like ... requiring no special, separate rigidizer. After applying Z-Guard, a very-stable, hard and chemically-resistant zirconium oxide layer forms on the surface while the binder-liquid soaks into the fibrous substrate creating a good 'tackdown'.

ToughSeal, a liquid rigidizer, may be needed for fibrous substrates ... fiber blanket insulation or fiber-lined furnaces etc. The ToughSeal soaks into the fibrous material and helps both hold (rigidize) the fibers together and act as a 'root system' for a topcoating -- connecting to the binder and filler of that coating.
See coatings for Substrates-Ceramic for typical topcoatings. Keep in mind that ToughSeal is pH-acidic (like lemon juice) and thus should be used with acidic topcoatings for best results. The Z-Primercoat can be considered for use as a sealant/rigidizer for pH-basic/alkaline topcoatings as well as acidic ones in some cases.
