TYPE YK
This is a low viscosity, nonaqueous-based, yttrium oxide coating. Type YK readily penetrates porous and fibrous ceramic bodies. Compared to Type Y, the Type YK coating is somewhat softer and higher purity after outgassing [with Type YK containing only 0.3% glassy-carbon phase after heating] and also outgasses at a lower temperature of only 350 C ideal for coating molds where minimum outgassing temperatures and amounts of volatiles are desired. In its liquid form, with a specific gravity of 1.55, this white-colored coating utilizes 46% of an alcohol-ethyl acetoacetate liquid carrier along with the active ingredient of yttria. Type YK can have a 400 sq.ft. per gallon coverage that will be reduced with porous substrates. The coating is usable with all substrates, with a 2000 C recommended maximum use-temperature in inert or vacuum atmospheres. Type YK is not recommended for usage in air. For use in all environments, including air, Y-Aerosol or Y-AER-BRUSHABLE are offered [Refer to Aerosol Refractory Spray Datasheet].
