TYPE Y
This water-based paint is a water-based suspension of 99.99% pure Yttrium Oxide, the most thermodynamically stable oxide available. Whenever metal purity is a prime consideration during melting and casting operations, yttria can be considered the most chemically resistant material available. This coating is commonly used for
• Reactive Metal Melting/Casting
• Lubricant for Superplastic Forming
• Anti-stick Release Coating for Diffusion Bonding, Hot-press De-canning & Sintering
Yttria properties that drive its selection include refractoriness; stability with carbon; low electrical and thermal conductivity; moderate thermal expansion; highest stability with the most reactive metals and alloys; high-temperature lubricity. The paint yields a relatively soft and pliable coating that is easy to apply. On heating to above 750 C, the liquid coating evolves water and carbon oxides slowly, becoming fully outgassed leaving only 0.7% glassy-carbon phase, with the balance being yttria. This white-colored coating has a specific gravity of 1.8 and a neutral pH in its liquid form utilizing a cellulose binder along with 45% of yttrium oxide active ingredient. Type Y is medium to-low viscosity and can have a 400 sq.ft. per gallon coverage usable on all substrates. Maximum recommended use-temperature is 2000 C in inert or vacuum atmospheres. Type Y usage is limited to 1500 C with carbon in a vacuum and is not recommend for usage in air. For use in all environments, including air, Y-Aerosol or
Y-AER-BRUSHABLE are offered [Refer to Aerosol Refractory Spray Datasheet] .
