Toughseal
Toughseal is a water-alcohol-based liquid which can be applied by bristle-brush, foam-rubber-brush, pump-sprayers and the like to most refractory materials ... brick, blankets, foams, pulp-molded surfaces, etc. The Toughseal has a pH of 2-3 ... which should be considered for some possible interactions [i.e., the surface being treated should be stable with an acidic material]. Specific gravity 1.27; 76% volatiles on heating to its 600 C outgassing temperature [water, nitrogen oxides, and carbon oxides are the outgassing species]. Due to its liquid constituency being based on aluminum oxynitrate-oxyphosphate, 46.5 % aluminum oxide, 53.5 % phosphorus oxide results after high-temperature heating. Toughseal can sometimes provide a good "base" for applying refractory topcoatings [i.e., when used on fibrous surfaces etc.] -- working well with acidic pH coatings.
The "shelf life" of Toughseal is a relatively-short 3-6 months.
