KEY ADVANTAGES
• Oil-Based Lubricant - provides good lubricity and nonreactivity with ferrous/nonferrous metals from room temperature to 1000 C (1832 F)
• Prevents oxidation/rusting while lubricating
• Carrier has high Flash Point of over 175 C [over 350 F]
• Lubricant contains the best materials -- BORON NITRIDE BASED
• Relatively nonsticking/nonwetting with molten nonferrous metals
• Viscosity like a very-thick milkshake -- can be adjusted as desired by adding THINNER
• Nearly odorless, minimum carrier residue, minimal smoking
• Easy to apply
• Withstands cyclic use
• Easy removal when required using EnSolv®-CW, other solvents, or soapy water.
• Readily Biodegradable Carrier 95% degraded in soil in 28 days i.e., an environmentally friendly “GREEN” carrier: BN, Graphite, and Titanium Dioxide remain as inert/non-hazardous materials.
• Low VOC (volatile organic compound) level of 41 g/L for Carrier
• For any high-temperature-exposed parts/components, such as belts, conveyers, chains, rollers, hinges/bolts/screws.
• For sealing heater-cartridges and providing thermally-conductive ceramic phases in the ‘gaps’
SPECIFICATIONS:
Active Ingredients ---------Ceramic phases: Boron Nitride, Graphite, Titanium Dioxide
Liquid ‘Vehicle’ -------------- Mixed fatty acid methyl esters (Methylated Seed Oil or MSO) with high flashpoint; readily cleaned off with EnSolv®-CW or other solvents
Diluting ------------------------ KERALON-Thinner is recommended; Canola Oil can be used to around 50% with some reduction in binder adherence.
Color ----------------------------Light gray
Specific Gravity -------------1.14 kg/m3
Viscosity (Brookfield) -----Like a very-thick milkshake
Use-Temperatures etc. ----Ambient to 1000 C; dry-film-lubricant over 200 C; OK in air, inert, vacuum
HANDLING ETC:
Shelf Life (months) ----------over 12 months; minimum settling.
Storage information --------no freezing/ heating problems; Do not contaminate; Consult MSDS before use.
Cleaning -----------------------Readily cleaned up with EnSolv®-CW [probably best]; also can be cleaned up with solvents such as methylethylketone [MEK], mineral spirits, Simple Green®, ethanol, or even soapy water (although more difficult).
USE NOTES:
Clean surfaces to be painted of surface dust, scale, other coatings, oils/greases; note that a ‘hot’ surface will typically rid the surface of oils/greases. Grit-blasting is not required but may improve cleaning of the substrate and subsequent adherence.
Lubricant can be applied onto hot surfaces or used as a liquid lubricating material.
Note: does not DRY when applied at room temperature remains oily/smooth/wet feeling.
If using BRUSH-APPLICATION, KERALON-B is ready-to-use: do not dilute. When applying to hot substrates, if the coating “drips”, this indicates that the surface/substrate is too hot. If the coating is very slow to dry, this indicates that the surface/substrate is too cold. If thinning is desired/required, add KERALON-Thinner or Canola Oil to get the desired viscosity.
KERALON-B can be applied to cold or warm surfaces/substrates and can be made into a “dry-film-lubricant” by simply OVEN DRYING. Dry in an oven/dryer set to about 200 C or 400 F for around 8 to 10 hours or until thoroughly dried. After such drying, testing to 700 C still led to a very-adherent dry-film-lubricant onto a Stainless coupon. REMEMBER: when coating metal surfaces, the thinner the better in terms of performance.
COATING REMOVAL:
If/when the ‘dry’ coating is needed to be removed, this can be done with an air blaster or light grit-blasting or dry-ice (CO2) blasting or wire-brushing. The wet/oily coating is easily removed with EnSolv®-CW
