Many researchers would like to test coatings that we do not offer. For those situations, ZYP Coatings offers several paint binders which allows researchers to produce their own custom high-temperature paintable coatings by merely selecting the best/most-compatible binder/suspension-agent for the powder of choice and then following these simple instructions.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR CUSTOM PAINT
1. Add powder of choice to the binder liquid.
2. Mix by rolling or shaking.
3. Apply resulting paint by brush, air-spray or dip.
4. Thoroughly room-temperature or ovendry, but below 100 C.
5. Cure by heating to above curing temperature if required; this is often performed during the first use heat cycle.
6. Place into use.
NOTE: Powders should preferably be -500 Mesh (-25 micrometers) average particle size, and are best if approximately 10 micrometers. Powder levels can be varied from a few percent of powder up to 80% or so, with the higher levels often forming pastes. Adjust the liquid level to fit your application. Typically, 10 to 70% powder is added. Start at 50%, and add more powder or liquid as needed.
GENERAL APPLICATION AND USE NOTES
1. Clean surfaces to be coated of oils, dust, scale, etc.
2. Resuspend the paints if needed. If paints are difficult to resuspend, roll overnight on jar-mill roller.
3. Apply resulting paint by brush, air-spray or dip. See LINKS section for Spra-Tool.
4. Dry thoroughly before use and between coats.
5. The coatings will cure by initial heating in service.
6. Clean tools with water for water-based binders; use alcohol for non-aqueous (solvent-based) formulations.
