BNW is a neutral pH, water-based paste usable in all atmospheres that can be applied as thick layers or brushed like house paint. Yields over 92% BN after drying. BNA is a non-aqueous-based paste usable in all atmospheres and can be applied like the BNW. Yields over 95% BN after drying.

(1) After heating to the outgas temperature.
(2) Glassy-carbon forms when heated in vacuum or inert atmospheres. If heated in air to above 500 C, the carbon will burn-off.
(3) The binder is dissolved in the carrier liquid.
(4) Approximate values given. Example 500* 2/60: Viscosity of 500 cps measured using spindle 2 at speed 60. *Indicates thixotropic properties.
(5) Approximate values. Actual results dependent upon coating thickness and substrate porosity and roughness.
(6) Temperature at which coating becomes fully hard and water resistant. If no value is given, the coating does not harden with heating.
(7) Temperature at which all outgassing products are evolved.
